Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board Congratulates

the Parties on Reaching a Final Devolution Agreement

March 11, 2013 –Today, the Chair and CEO of the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board, Willard Hagen, congratulates all the parties on the successful conclusion of an agreement for the devolution of authority for the future management of lands and resources in the Northwest Territories.

To the Territorial Government, the Gwich’in Tribal Council, the Sahtu Secretariat Inc., the Tłįchǫ Government, the NWT Metis Nation, the Inuvialuit Regional Council, and the Federal Government – on behalf of the MVLWB, I congratulate you all on this achievement. We look forward to working with you during the implementation of this agreement as it relates to the continued use and protection of our northern land, water, and resources.    

The Land and Water Boards of the Mackenzie Valley review development applications and issue land use permits and water licences throughout the Mackenzie Valley under the authority of the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act of 1998.
